Steel grade communication is one of the most common sources of misunderstanding in international sourcing. Different countries use different standards, and the same product may be made from different materials depending on strength, corrosion resistance, forming route and cost target. A clear RFQ helps the supplier confirm the material route faster.
- Buyers should provide the exact steel grade when it is required by drawing, standard or end-customer specification.
- If a local standard is used, providing an equivalent international grade or material certificate requirement can reduce confusion.
- For general parts, buyers can describe the application and ask the supplier to recommend a practical grade.
- Carbon steel, medium carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel should not be treated as interchangeable categories.
- Mechanical requirements such as hardness, tensile strength or yield strength should be stated when they are critical.
- Surface treatment requirements should be listed separately from base material grade.
- If the part will be welded, bent, threaded or heat treated, the material grade should match the process route.
- A complete RFQ should include grade, size, tolerance, quantity, application, finish, packing and destination country.
If you need a practical quotation for a similar part, send your drawing, sample, material requirement, quantity and destination country. Juyi Metal can review the production route before quoting.
